Naturally, each rotation is a little different, but for the most part, rotations begin at 8 a.m. Upon arriving at this small community hospital, one is met with the most friendly, accommodating medical staff. They are very excited to have medical students and often provide parties and student social activities. On your first day you will report to Rhonda Hamlett the Medical Coordinator’s office on your way to the patient care area. Rhonda provides a student orientation to training protocols and welcomes you to the hospital.

The morning and afternoon schedules vary depending on which rotation you are on, but they are usually broken up by eating lunch in the hospital cafeteria. The food in the cafeteria is free to medical students. If eating hospital food three times per day does not sound appealing to you, there are a couple grocery stores in town and, of course, a Wal-Mart store. There is also a wonderful restaurant named Sissy’s which offers fine dining tucked away in the small town of Kennett.

If you are on a surgical rotation or an Obstetrics/Gynecology rotation you may get called back into the hospital during off hours.  Call depends on your preceptor’s schedule but you will still have plenty of study time. Students at this site may also hang out in the Emergency Room if you would like to catch interesting cases or simply have more opportunity for clinical exposure.
