Benefiting our communities with your expertise
Working together to achieve a healthier tomorrow
Southeast Missouri Area Health Education Center community programs are designed to address our communities’ local health needs, serving as an important link between academic training programs and community-based outreach programs by implementing innovative, collaborative and interprofessional responses to current and emerging health issues.
SEMO AHEC, in association with our state and national offices, has collaboratively developed community health education curriculums for both digital and in-person training programs. These practical and educational resources help rural and underserved populations meet public health needs by helping to develop their own members into effective medical professionals.
Our local resource network
Partnering and enabling our
healthcare allies in Southeast Missouri
We collaborate with a variety of community partners to write grants and develop education and training programs relevant to community health workers, mental health, maternal health and infant mortality, food insecurity and nutrition, infectious disease prevention, and social determinants of health, as well as provide CPR and first aid training.

Clinical training serving the
future of Southeast Missouri.
AHEC makes it possible to train medical, nursing, dental and other allied health students in underserved communities to develop relationships and recruit them to future healthcare practice in those communities.
SEMO AHEC has six clinical training sites for medical students. All of our sites are community-based. At this time there are no residencies, so students train one-on-one with their preceptors. We currently have rotations available in our Cape Girardeau, Farmington, Kennett, Poplar Bluff, Sikeston and West Plains affiliates.
The MAHEC Digital Library
The Missouri AHEC Digital Library (MDL) is a comprehensive collection of health science library resources. Through collaboration and partnerships, the MDL provides access to health science library services for students, professionals and organizations across the state of Missouri.
